No Fellowship with Darkness

And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them” Ephesians 5:11.

You probably know by now that there are basically two spiritual forces in the world and they are in direct conflict with each other. These are the kingdom of darkness (or Satan’s kingdom) and the kingdom of light (God’s kingdom). You have a free will and can choose which power you want to fellowship with. You also have to remember that you cannot be friends with both. It is either devil or God. There is no compromise between them. They are in mortal combat and Satan has already lost. He is now fighting with the people of the earth. Join God’s army and Satan will have no power over you. You will have over him.

We Were Darkness, but Now We Are Light

For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light” Ephesians 5:8.

If you think that you have always been a good person, think again. This verse tells us that we were once darkness and our father was the devil. We would have ended with him eternally in hell had Christ not saved us on the cross. Thanks to Him we are no longer darkness, but the sons and daughters of light. Devil is no longer your father if you have been born again. God is!

Walk in Love

And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour” Ephesians 5:1.

You may think that a good Christian is the one who knows his Bible very well. If that’s how you think I can disappoint you, because that’s not true. Pharisees knew even the place where Christ was to be born, yet they wanted Him dead. Love is the ultimate test of our Christianity. Even Jesus said that from our love to one another the world will know that we are His disciples.

Imitators of God

Therefore be imitators of God as dear children” Ephesians 5:1.

Despite the fact imitation sounds unnatural; all children learn things from their parents by imitating them. This is how you learn the language, what is good and bad, what you should do and what shouldn’t and many more. The same can be said about learning from God our Father. You imitate Him. You start by studying how He thinks and adopting His way of thinking, then you go on to His speaking and you copy that too. You end up by making His habits your habits and so transform with all of your behavior.

Controlling What You Speak

Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers” Ephesians 4:29.

Words carry power. If they are charged with energy: good or bad. If your heart is full of hatred, contempt, envy and etc. your words will have destroying influence on those to whom you speak. Therefore, the Word of God teaches us to carefully choose what comes out of our mouths. We are also taught to protect our hearts because the source of life is there. We are to speak things that bring blessing, joy, love, peace and everything that is Christ like. Speaking that way will not only produce those good things in lives of listeners, but also ours as we reap what we sow in others.

Do Not Live Like Gentiles

This I say, therefore, and testify in the Lord, that you should no longer walk as the rest of the Gentiles walk, in the futility of their mind...“ Ephesians 4:17.

When we convert to Christ our lifestyle has to change. How? By the change of our way of thinking! Bible clearly states here that Gentiles live the way they live, because of they think in a certain way. Absence of God in life and mind causes one to chase futile things that do not have everlasting value. We have eternity in our hearts and therefore, should not be motivated by things that will not have any significance in the kingdom of Heaven when it comes.
