No Fellowship with Darkness

And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them” Ephesians 5:11.

You probably know by now that there are basically two spiritual forces in the world and they are in direct conflict with each other. These are the kingdom of darkness (or Satan’s kingdom) and the kingdom of light (God’s kingdom). You have a free will and can choose which power you want to fellowship with. You also have to remember that you cannot be friends with both. It is either devil or God. There is no compromise between them. They are in mortal combat and Satan has already lost. He is now fighting with the people of the earth. Join God’s army and Satan will have no power over you. You will have over him.

We Were Darkness, but Now We Are Light

For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light” Ephesians 5:8.

If you think that you have always been a good person, think again. This verse tells us that we were once darkness and our father was the devil. We would have ended with him eternally in hell had Christ not saved us on the cross. Thanks to Him we are no longer darkness, but the sons and daughters of light. Devil is no longer your father if you have been born again. God is!

Walk in Love

And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour” Ephesians 5:1.

You may think that a good Christian is the one who knows his Bible very well. If that’s how you think I can disappoint you, because that’s not true. Pharisees knew even the place where Christ was to be born, yet they wanted Him dead. Love is the ultimate test of our Christianity. Even Jesus said that from our love to one another the world will know that we are His disciples.

Imitators of God

Therefore be imitators of God as dear children” Ephesians 5:1.

Despite the fact imitation sounds unnatural; all children learn things from their parents by imitating them. This is how you learn the language, what is good and bad, what you should do and what shouldn’t and many more. The same can be said about learning from God our Father. You imitate Him. You start by studying how He thinks and adopting His way of thinking, then you go on to His speaking and you copy that too. You end up by making His habits your habits and so transform with all of your behavior.

Let’s Forgive As Christ Forgave Us

And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you” Ephesians 4:32.

Forgiveness flows out of the heart of God the Father and Jesus. Billions of people have lived in the planet earth since creation and everybody sinned a lot of times. God forgave every sin of every person on the cross. He remembers them not. What a gift! We are commanded to do the same. Let us not keep hatred in our hearts towards one another. Let’s be like our Father and Jesus. Let’s learn to forgive, because we have been forgiven.

Do Not Grieve the Holy Spirit

And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption” Ephesians 4:30.

You can be upset and so can be the Holy Spirit. Certain things make you sad and there are things that make the Spirit of God sad. They are mentioned in the last verses of the fourth chapter to Ephesians. Our relationship with God is not some legal stuff. It is alive! There are emotions involved. You can rejoice in Him and He can rejoice about you. Both you and He can feel every positive emotion in your relationship. Negative emotions can also creep in if sin creeps in. Let’s us choose to make our Lord glad every single day. Amen.
